What is Quidplayer?

Quidplayer is an embeddable online MP3 player store that allows artists to sell tracks to their fans directly from their website or MySpace profile, and allows fans to set their own price for the tracks they download. Fans can pay a price they think is fair, and rest assured knowing that the artist takes home 90% of the profits.

Quidplayer's unique "Pay What You Want" design is based on the philosophy that people will pay good money for good music - even if it's up to them to set the price.

When a fan purchases a track, how much do I keep?

Artists keep 90% of the profit on all tracks sold after credit card processing fees are deducted.

When your fan buys... Fan pays You make... Google Checkout takes Quidplayer takes
One track for $0.99 $0.99 $0.59 $0.33 $0.07
Three tracks for $0.99 each $2.97 $2.32 $0.39 $0.26
An album for $9.99 $9.99 $8.46 $0.59 $0.94
Is Quidplayer a better deal for me than other MP3 stores?

In most cases, yes. It depends how much fans pay for a given track. On average, fans have kept an average of $0.90/track, including free tracks and $1.37/track excluding free tracks! That’s because, when a fan pays, they pay an average of $1.60/track. Let fans pay what they want and they will reward you!

What is the average amount fans pay for a track?

On average, fans have paid $1.60/track when they do pay and an average of $1.04/track including free downloads! Yes, it really does work when you let fans pick the price! The average transaction price is $8.19 when fans pay and $5.14 including free downloads. The average number of tracks per transaction is 5. As a result, artists keep MUCH more on average when they use Quidplayer, a staggering $1.37/track when fans pay and $0.90/track including free downloads.

What’s this about a minimum transaction price?

Google Checkout, the service we use to process credit cards, charges a "per transaction fee" of $0.30, plus 2.9% of the sale for each transaction.

Remember, these fees apply to each transaction, not each track sold. The price per track is up to the fans, but the minimum transaction fee is $0.32, to ensure that the artist gets paid something.

Are downloaded MP3s really DRM-free?

Absolutely. We at Quidplayer and the artists who choose to offer their music using Quidplayer understand that DRM restrictions diminish the trust and intimacy between artists and their fans.

Can artists set a suggested price?

Yes. Artists can provide a suggested price for individual tracks and albums.

Can artists set a minimum price?

No. While artists can provide a suggested price, fans may choose to pay any price for the MP3s they download. Keep in mind though, that there is a minimum transaction price to ensure that transaction costs are covered.

Do I retain the rights to the music I sell with Quidplayer?

Yes! The copyright holder (usually the artist) maintains full control over content they upload onto Quidplayer. We don't own any of it, we just help sell it!

What is the "Tip this artist" bar for?

The tip bar allows fans to pay an artist for their work without downloading a track. Like a tip jar at a show, the tip bar allows fans to show their appreciation for an artist's work in general, rather than for a particular song. As with track purchases, the minimum tip amount is $0.32 in order to cover credit card processing fees.
